The Long Walk to Learn event in October was a huge success. We had over 400 walkers and raised $11,000 for the Literacy At The Well program.
The weather was beautiful, as were the grounds of Mooseheart. We are grateful for their support!
We would also like to thank the Geneva Lions and the Geneva High School Leos Club for making this event a great success.
Thank you to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Geneva, Producer’s Chemical, and Cadence Health for helping to sponsor the t-shirts.
Participants enjoyed learning about life in South Sudan as they visited three educational sites along the walking route.
The first site addressed the harmful effects that the lack of safe water has had on the citizens of South Sudan. We would like to thank Trader Joe’s for providing our walkers with clean water at this point in their journey.
The second site demonstrated how women and girls are learning how to read and write as they wait for clean water at wells.
At the third site, walkers were able to make clay cows, a past time in South Sudan. They were also treated to delicious dessert breads, courtesy of The Breadsmith in St. Charles.
Thank you to everyone who participated and made this a wonderful event! Thank you for sharing the fun you had with your family and friends.
We have received many requests to host this event again soon. We hope to do so in the near future. If you are interested in being contacted about upcoming events, please email us at info@RebuildingSouthernSudan.org
